-What are you currently reading?

Slade House. I’m not enjoying it as much as I thought I would, but it’s good and not too long. So, I’ll plow through.

What did you recently finish reading?

I finished Surviving Demon Island by Jaci Burton. I didn’t realize it was paranormal romance from the blurb. PNR isn’t my usual stomping grounds, so I didn’t get as invested as I might have.

I started and gave up on Super Sad True Love Story last week. It wasn’t working for me right now, but I might try it again sometime.

What do you think you’ll read next?

b

Still waiting for this to make its way my way.

Love at the Edge of Seventeen, a YA romance anthology featuring my story “Be Null, My Heart,” is coming next April! If you love romance, young adult lit, or both, please consider backing the project on kickstarter!

Shares also appreciated. 😊

-What are you currently reading?

This popped up in a Book Riot email. The title caught my attention, so I grabbed it. I’m only a few pages in, but so far, I’m curious.

What did you recently finish reading?

I closed on The Master Magician and the Paper Magician series. Very much enjoyed the series.

I came down with a pretty crummy cold this past week. And apparently, when I’m sick, I binge read romance novels. So…

I finished off the Las Vegas Sinners series, which I started a year or two ago. These are hockey romances written by Katie Kenyhercz, who I went to school with, and they are the perfect blend of swoony and fun. Perfect for feeling good when one is sick.

I also read the first two books (of what I assume will be more) in the Love Hurts series by Sawyer Bennett. These are as swoony as the Las Vegas Sinners with a lot more heat. Looking forward to more.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I actually have a few other options lying around, but as I haven’t decided which will be next, Magnus Chase is still my stand-in here.

~Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!

-What are you currently reading?

The Master Magician is the third book in the Paper Magician trilogy (which, incidentally, has four books in it according to Goodreads). This is such an interesting fantasy concept, and I’m glad I got the chance to read these books.

What did you recently finish reading?

Paper Magician and Glass Magician. Enjoyed both.

What do you think you’ll read next?

This, unfortunately, still hasn’t found its way to a reading nook near me. I suppose continuing to post it here is my attempt at undying optimism.

I finally picked up The Paper Magician. I’ve had this one on my to-read list for a while and never got to it. But I’m here now and liking it so far.

What did you recently finish reading?

I’ve also been meaning to read the Upside-Down Magic books for a while. They are achingly adorable, and I look forward to more of them coming out.

The Accidental Keyhand has also been sitting on my to-read list forever. I didn’t like it as much as I thought based on the blurb, but it was an entertaining read, nonetheless.

Lastly, the book I was reading this time last week—The Witches of Cambridge. This is a lighthearted book about love and friendship and a little bit of tragedy that touches the heart in unexpected places. Recommend.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m still holding out to get The Ship of the Dead as my next read.

Waiting on Wednesday: BANDS OF MOURNING

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

BANDS OF MOURNING
by Brandon Sanderson

Goodreads Blurb
The #1 New York Times bestselling author returns to the world of Mistborn with the follow-up to Shadows of Self.

With The Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self, Brandon Sanderson surprised readers with a New York Times bestselling spinoff of his Mistborn books, set after the action of the trilogy, in a period corresponding to late 19th-century America.

Now, with The Bands of Mourning, Sanderson continues the story. The Bands of Mourning are the mythical metalminds owned by the Lord Ruler, said to grant anyone who wears them the powers that the Lord Ruler had at his command. Hardly anyone thinks they really exist. A kandra researcher has returned to Elendel with images that seem to depict the Bands, as well as writings in a language that no one can read. Waxillium Ladrian is recruited to travel south to the city of New Seran to investigate. Along the way he discovers hints that point to the true goals of his uncle Edwarn and the shadowy organization known as The Set.

~Sanderson wrote it. Give it here.

Waiting on Wednesday: A KIND OF MAGIC

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

A KIND OF MAGIC
by Shanna Swendson

Goodreads Blurb
Dancing on ice …

The holiday season in New York City is supposed to be magical, but it’s not yet Thanksgiving, and what’s happening isn’t that kind of magic.

The fairy world seems to be bleeding into the human world. Strange white horses carry people into the Central Park lake. Children are disappearing from their beds. Unearthly snow flurries pepper the air while odd pockets of summer appear randomly in Central Park. There’s even a suspicious wave of injuries among Broadway dancers and ballerinas, who feel like they’ve danced all night.

Noticing this, outside enchantresses are converging on New York to stop what they think is a fae incursion. Sophie Drake knows the fae aren’t to blame, and she suspects that one of the enchantresses is up to no good, creating a situation that will put her in power. But revealing how she knows what’s happening would mean revealing her own fae ties to the anti-fae enchantresses.

Not that she has time to deal with any of this. She’s been offered a major ballet role in The Nutcracker – a chance to revive her dance career. She can’t miss a step onstage as she tries to thwart the power play and balance the realms without running afoul of the fae or the enchantresses.

~I fell in love with Swendson’s Katie Chandler books, and anything new from her is more than welcome in my library. 

But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Waiting on Wednesday: THE AERONAUT'S WINDLASS by Jim Butcher

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

THE AERONAUT’S WINDLASS (The Cinder Spires, #1)
by Jim Butcher

Jim Butcher, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Dresden Files and the Codex Alera novels, conjures up a new series set in a fantastic world of noble families, steam-powered technology, and magic-wielding warriors…

Since time immemorial, the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls, aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace.

Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship, Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy’s shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels. But when the Predator is severely damaged in combat, leaving captain and crew grounded, Grimm is offered a proposition from the Spirearch of Albion—to join a team of agents on a vital mission in exchange for fully restoring Predator to its fighting glory.

And even as Grimm undertakes this dangerous task, he will learn that the conflict between the Spires is merely a premonition of things to come. Humanity’s ancient enemy, silent for more than ten thousand years, has begun to stir once more. And death will follow in its wake…

~This looks so cool! Plus, Jim Butcher wrote it.
